Lymphedema can seemingly come out of nowhere. The causes are varied, but for many people it's a result from surgery in which the Lymphatic drainage system becomes stagnant, causing an unusual amount of swelling. Lymphedema often occurs in cancer patients as a result of mastectomies and lumpectomies, as well as radiation therapies. Left untreated, Lymphedema can lead to fibrosis, hardening of the tissue.Beyond Physical Therapy is one of the few physical therapy clinics in Los Angeles specializing in Lymphedema. We have successfully treated many people with excessive swelling who did not know where else to turn. Many did not receive help from their doctors, not because these doctors are not skilled, but because they do not specialize in Lymphedema.
